This Solingen original was first produced in the knife and blade forge 'Mercator' Indiawerk Heinrich Kaufmann and Shne. Even though it was not designed as an army knife, the army of Kaiser Wilhelm quickly learned to appreciate the qualities of the Mercator. The name 'Kaiser Wilhelm Messer' originates from this time. As it is almost indestructible, the Mercator knife was passed on from generation to generation in the past. This is also how it made the leap into the present day.
