Next-generation lightweight Kontiki

Improving upon the original S30’s compact and lightweight design, the all-new Seahorse S33 Electric Kontiki now includes increased performance, distance and enhanced steering. The new control unit features an integrated autopilot and GPS tracker. The S33 is also controlled by an app, available on both Apple and Android devices.

The Seahorse S33 Electric Kontiki is the lightest Kontiki available in the market today. It has a 30lb thrust motor and a cut-down two-blade propeller. The chisel bow allows the S33 to smoothly cut through the waves. The high conning tower houses the control unit, while the GPS receiver and cell antenna maximise communication. The handle is also narrow and comfortable to use. In many ways, the Seahorse S33 has the performance of a larger Kontiki without the bulk.

Battery
The S33 uses a single lithium battery to operate. It enables the motor to produce nearly 33lb of thrust, giving a 10% increase over lead acid batteries. On a full charge, this black lithium battery enables the Kontiki to run for up to 25 minutes.

GPS Tracking and Telemetry System
Seahorse has built the GPS tracker into the heart of the Kontiki’s control unit. The built-in backup battery provides many hours of extended tracking even after the main battery has been disconnected. In addition to transmitting the GPS tracking location of the Kontiki, the control unit also transmits the performance telemetry of the S33 back to the main server. This includes the speed, direction, voltage and current drawn from the batteries plus other information.

The GPS Tracking and Telemetry data capture use GSM Cellular (cellphone) network connection. The cellular connection allows the position and data to be transmitted from the Kontiki to the cloud and back to the App on your phone. It also allows commands such as STOP to be sent from the App via the Cloud to the Kontiki.

GPS Autopilot
The GPS-controlled Autopilot system features enhanced hardware for a faster and more accurate position lock. The steering algorithms also boast improved directional stability, letting the S33 hold a course towards the waypoint. The course is easily set by starting the motor on the beach and walking approximately 10 metres in the direction you wish the Kontiki to travel in. The GPS Autopilot system will then calculate the direction and set a waypoint 3 km out. At that stage, the rudder will centre itself to confirm that the course is correctly set.

Once the Kontiki is launched, the GPS Autopilot will steer the S33 Kontiki towards the waypoint. If a current tries to pull the Kontiki along the beach, the GPS Autopilot will turn the S33 Kontiki into the current so it stays heading towards the waypoint. Once the run is complete, the GPS Autopilot will turn off and the rudder will be held in a central position to minimise the chances of it being damaged.

Advanced Features Subscription
Every new Seahorse S33 Electric Kontiki comes with six months of free access to the advanced features from the date of purchase. After expiration, there is a small annual subscription to cover the costs involved in running the tracker and central server. The subscription renewal process is done via the Seahorse App on your phone.
