The Reel
The Shimano Corvalus 400 is perfectly suited for everything from slow jigging and soft baiting for snapper, blue cod and trevally all the way through to bait fishing or trolling for skipjack tuna. Team it up with braid and this versatile little reel will see you through, no matter what your fishing needs are.
Constructed out of a die-cast aluminium frame, side plates and spool the Corvalus boasts 3 A-RB bearings along with 1 stainless steel roller bearing. The non-disengaging level wind system, specific to the 400 model, makes laying the line onto the reel a piece of cake. Whereas its variable brake system (VBS) uses centrifugal forces to control the cast. It does this by creating friction to reduce the speed of the spool, preventing any backlashes from the line giving you a smoother, tangle free cast.

The Shimano Vortex family features a Power-Carbon blank specially designed to take the knocks, an integrated glass tip so as to retain sensitivity from the bite to the fight, and also enhance overall performance without compromise.
These features allow Kiwi anglers to take full advantage of the more traditional bait fishing techniques including the perfect match for the Shimano Baitrunner series, surfcasting options, landbased rock fishing, straylining with overhead reels and deploying baits in to the benthos for hapuku and the like.
