The Reel
The Shimano Grappler 300HG Baitcaster Reel is now available in New Zealand fresh from the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) catalogue. It's hand-picked specifically for inshore metal jigging.
At the heart of the Shimano Grappler's features are X-Ship for enhanced cranking power, Hagane Body for a strong and more rigid frame, S3D to reduced side-to-side spool wobble when casting and an impressive 6.2:1 retrieval meaning less time winding up and more time fishing.
The Rod
The Shimano Engetsu XR K-B66 Overhead Rod is a feature-packed rod designed for supple and smooth bending. At the heart of the rod is the next generation Spiral X Core construction which makes it light, strong and powerful. This improves torsional rigidity by 10% and compression rigidity up to 15% - you'll experience this improvement when casting and also when fighting a fish. The Hi-Power X construction of the rod further suppresses twisting that occurs during casting and fighting, delivering sharp and crisp rod control.
The Shimano Engetsu XR K-B66 Overhead Rod also features a revolutionary X-seat extreme gun grip that keeps the angle of your wrist straight so you won't feel knackered even when fishing for a long time. You know it's going to be a great day when you have this rod in your hands.
Spiral X Core Construction
The Spiral X Core construction consists of 3 layers. The outer layer is made of Shimano Infinity carbon tape, the middle layer of longitudinal carbon fibre sheet and the outer layer is made of Shimano Infinity Nanoalloy carbon tape. The use of Nanoalloy resin technology increases torsional and compression rigidity, creating additional strength.
Hi-Power X
In Hi-Power X construction, the blank's outermost layer is diagonally wrapped with carbon tape, which forms an array of inchXinch shapes. The width of the tape, its winding angle and the part of the rod being wrapped are fine-tuned according to the target fish species. The flexibility allows Shimano to adjust these wraps during construction for precise actions, enhanced overall strength and added twist resistance. In short, Hi-Power X construction delivers sharp and crisp rod control by the angler.
X-seat Extreme Gun Grip
The basics of making a rod are to first stick to blanks and maximize their performance.
