Vertical jigging for pelagic and bottom dwelling gamefish has been around for a while now and fishos are aware of how effective these baits can be. The only downfall to knife and butterfly jigs is how quickly they can move through the strike zone before a fish can react. The Savage Gear Squish Slow Jig is a centre-balanced jig that moves erratically sideways through the water column to keep the bait in a fish’s strike zone longer. Just free spool the Squish to the desired depth and then put the reel in gear and use a jerk and fall retrieve.
How to fish with the Squish slow Jig
Simply cast or release (if drifting) jig to the ocean bottom, engage reel, lift the tip of your rod from horizontal to approximately 45 degrees then wind the slack line created by this movement back onto the reel while dropping tip back to a horizontal position to repeat. When the lure is back to a vertical position, drop down again or wind up to repeat cast and retrieve. Ideal for Snapper, Blue Cod, John Dory, Trevally, Kingfish, Tuna and other species.
