Super fast

The new Shimano Vanford 4000 XG Spinning Reel is designed to become the ultimate finesse fishing reel with a super-fast start up. Replacing the iconic Stradic Ci4+, this reel is equipped with a range of technology upgrades that sets the Vanford apart. Still drawing upon a lightweight Ci4+ body construction, the new MGL rotor makes the reel 48% lighter to turn when compared to a standard rotor design.

Micromodule Gear II and Silent Drive is featured in the new Vanford and the Hagane Gear has been upgraded for added strength. X-Protect provides high-level water resistance without sacrificing light gear and rotor rotation. This has increased the durability of the Vanford's roller clutch and line roller to an IPX8 standard. By incorporating the new Long Stroke Spool design, casting performance has also been improved.

Micromodule II: light and smooth reeling
Micromodule gear II has evolved with the most advanced tooth surface design to create the ideal gear tooth shape. This reduces noise and creates smooth reeling.

MGL Rotor: ultra light friction-free rotation
The redesigned Mangnumlite Rotor delivers ultra light, almost friction-free rotation, enabling you to control the retrieve with ultimate precision and sensitivity. Lures become even more animated when using the MGL Rotor reel, and the ultra light experience lets you feel every movement of the lure, the bottom and ultimately the strike of the fish, no matter how slight it is.

Hagane Gear: upgraded and more robust gearing
Hagane Gear has become the cornerstone of many of Shimano's finest spinning reels. With Shimano's own precision cold forging technology, the new Vanford has improved gear durability and is equipped with a newly designed Hagane gear with equivalent strength to the upper model.

X-Ship: highly rigid body design
X-Ship stands for extra, smooth and high power. By supporting the pinion gear on both ends with SA-RB bearings and introducing a bigger drive gear, Shimano increased gearing efficiency and higher power. This results in a fishing reel with ultra-light handle rotation for less effort, even under heavy loads.

X-Protect: superior saltwater resistance
By combining the internal water repellent and the labyrith structure, it achieves performance that can repel water without losing the lightness of rotation. This features in the line roller section and the roller clutch assembly (anti-reverse). As a result, the durability of the line roller has been improved more than five times.

Silent Drive: seamless gear engagement
From the fundamental, whole body design to the most intricate parts of the drive train, including the drive hear, wormshaft, wormshaft pin and wormshaft hear, every piece has veen carefully reviewed, and the smallest clearance gaps and wobbles have been eliminated to the highest tolerances.

Ci4+ Body: the advantages of metal without the weight
Ci4+ is a material created by the interfusion of carbon and polyamide. The upshot is a reel whose precision inner workings are housed within a protective shell with all the performance advantages of metal, but weighing less and therefore reducing arm fatigue whilst increasing feel and balance through the rod.
