The Reel
The Shimano Big Baitrunner CI4+ XTB Long Cast Surfcasting Reel features a large A-RC spool with slow oscillation. Packed with big features, this big baitrunner has a precision-forged Hagane Body and XShip supporting the pinion gear on both ends with S-ARB bearings and integrating a bigger drive gear to create higher gearing efficiency and embody more power. The smooth power transfer and stability of the gears makes a difference. The gears have been redesigned to minimise friction and increase power transfer from the long aluminium handle to the rotor.

Hagane Gear
The Hagane Drive Gear is produced by Shimano's coldforging technology, without the need for additional machining. This delivers a longlasting smoothness, strenght, lightness and power at the very heart of the reel. Traditional diecast, machined gears are less durable under heavy loads.

XShip
XShip is a combination of features that work together to create much greater efficiency. By positioning the pinion gear close to the centre line of the large diametre drive gear, more power is transferred from the handle to the rotor. The pinion gear is also supported by two Shimano roller bearings, creating more stability.

CI4
Carbon Interfusion 4 (valence electrons) is a graphite body material that has been reinforced with carbon fibre. Lighter than magneisum, yet more than enough to cope with the stresses of saltwater fishing.

S-ARB
These bearings have been through the same process as A-RB bearings but feature shields on both sides of the bearings, which reduce the possibility of salt or sand inhibiting the rotation of the bearings.

AR-C Spool
Through tens of thousands of casting tests and computer simulations it has been determined that the new AR-C spool lip design provides casting distances than a standard spool lip design while preventing backlashes and wind knots from forming. It also allows the line to flow off the spool in smaller loops during the cast, which means less slap on the strip per guide. This results in longer casts with less friction.

The Rod
The Shimano Surf Leader Ultra 425BX Surfcasting Rod is the new flagship surf rod in the Shimano range. With Spiral X and Hi-Power X blank technology, this is the ultimate surf rod with unbelievable distance and casting abilities.

The Spiral X construction results in reduced torsion and ovalisation, while the Hi-Power X construction results in reduced blank twist and greater rod strength. Overall this creates a very strong, stiff and lightweight rod blank with incredible casting performance (both distance and accuracy). The Surf Leader Ultra comes in a 425cm length and is finished with Fuji SiC low rider guides.

Spiral X Construction
Spiral X construction consists of three layers: a blank made of vertical fibers, an inner layer, and an outer layer both comprised of carbon tape that tightly winds the blank diagonally in opposite directions. By using this carbon tape in place of a conventional horizontal fiber sheet, Spiral X achieves enhanced torsional rigidity without adding extra weight. This in turn facilitates instant power transmission for precise casting and fighting fish. Through its exclusive lightweight structure, Shimano's Spiral X construction enhances your "catching power."

Hi-Power X
In Hi-Power X construction, the blank's outermost layer is diagonally wrapped with carbon tape, which forms an array of "X" shapes. The width of the tape, its winding angle and the part of the rod being wrapped are fine-tuned according to the target fish species. The flexibility allows Shimano to adjust these wraps during construction for precise actions, enhanced overall strength and added twist resistance. In short, Hi-Power X construction delivers sharp and crisp rod control by the angler.
