Note: All califont units regardless of size has between 20 and 25 degrees C temperature rise from ambient temperature of the water pumped into the heater. This is provided the water heater is installed as per instructions.
Note 2: Challenger Califont Water Heaters meet the current NZ regulations for water heaters. Please note that actual product may vary from photo provided by supplier.
It is important to select the size of the califont to match the existing water pressure and the demand. A large califont on a low-pressure supply will not be able to supply water at the pressure indicated on the califont. Conversely, a small califont with too much incoming water pressure will not be able to keep up with heating.
To ensure the match, you need to measure your available water pressure before installing the califont. You might be able to utilise a pressure-reducing valve to reduce pressure or a pump to increase pressure. Generally, a 20-40psi water pressure is recommended for small capacity califont (10L and below) and up to 70 psi for our 12L and 16L.
Please Note - Installation:
It is very important to understand that only califonts installed per the manufacturer's instructions by a qualified installer will be warrantable. Additionally, installing them in other ways may cause a risk of fire and explosion. This may also void your insurance.
Specifically, changing the electrical wiring system, potentially creating a spark and ignition risk near where the gas piping system is going into the unit, creates the potential for a fire if there is any gas leak. If you have an installer wanting to change anything from standard, please ensure they are qualified to do so and prepared to warranty and back up their work should something go wrong.
